Barring any last minute hiccup, the embattled chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei, is expected to appear before Ghana’s Parliament to respond to questions about the impasse between her and her deputies as well as the management of elections in the country.
Madam Osei will also brief the House on the finances of the EC. Sources say she will respond to questions on the misappropriation of funds generated from replacement of voter ID cards and sale of media accreditation cards ahead of 2016 elections
According to the Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu the leadership of parliament will also hold a separate meeting with Charlotte Osei to ascertain the cause of the acrimony between herself and two of her deputies.
Mrs Osei is alleged by some staff of the Commission to be perpetrating fraud and abuse of office, thus seeking her removal from office.
The unidentified persons have therefore petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo for her removal.
Meanwhile, the EC boss on Tuesday sued the lawyer of the so-called staff of the Electoral Commission who are seeking her removal from office by the President.
In her suit, Mrs Osei wants the court to among others to restrain Maxwell Opoku Agyemang [lawyer for the plaintiffs] from making comments which will further dent her reputation.
