- The 5th anniversary of the death of late President John Evans Atta Mills was observed at the Asomdwe Park on Monday, July 24
- His wife, Naadu Mills was absent at the event which raised speculations about the tension in the family
The brother of the late President Evans Atta Mills, Samuel Atta Mills has dismissed claims that the former first lady and widow of the late president, Naadu Mills deliberately chose to be absent at the 5th anniversary celebration of her husband’s death.
According to Mr. Mills, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem (KEEA) area, Mrs. Naadu Mills was under the weather hence her inability to be present.
Speaking to Okay FM, Mr. Mills said Naadu asked to be excused on a valid basis of not being in the best of health, thereby laying to rest rumors that tensions were still high in the family.
The MP was responding to comments by the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, who said the former first lady had been invited but chose to be absent at the event.
The 5th anniversary of the death of the late President John Atta Mills was held at the “Asomdwe” Park, in Accra.
The event saw some key members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) pay their respects to the former president through the laying of wreaths at his tomb.
