- Hassan Ayariga has heavily criticized the EC Chair since the allegations of corruption at the commission emerged
- He opined that Charlotte Osei allowed her emotions to influence her leadership style
- He stated the EC was not thrown into chaos during Afari-Gyan’s tenure
The founder and leader of the All People’s Congress, Hassan Ayariga has continued his verbal assault on the embattled chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei.
The politician wondered why the EC chair is still at her position while the corruption scandal at the institution is still pending a resolution.
“I am so sad why Charlotte Osei is behaving that way. May be the position she is occupying makes her think that she is a God. She feels she is untouchable which is wrong,” Hassan Ayariga said.
According to a report by KasapaOnline, Mr. Ayariga noted that Madam Charlotte Osei’s leadership caused the damaging reputation the EC now has.
Ayariga opined that the EC boss allowed her emotions to influence her leadership, which has caused the rot at the commission.
He stated that such issues never occurred under the management of the previous EC chair, Kwadwo Afari-Gyan.
“Under the leadership of Dr. Afari-Gyan, the country did not witness so much disdain, animosity and hatred among the Commissioners and some directors like what the public is witnessing today. Why is it that under Charlotte Osei we are witnessing this at the EC? Your staff are fighting you. Your deputies are fighting you, why?,” he added.
In a statement signed by the Director of Communications at Presidency, Eugene Arhin, the president “received a petition, initially undated and unsigned, against the Chairperson of the EC. Subsequently, counsel, Maxwell Opoku Agyemang, Esq., by letter dated 20th July, 2017, wrote to the office of the President setting out the names of the petitioners and the date of the petition.
Pursuant to the terms of Article 146(3), President Akufo-Addo has, thus, referred the petition to the Chief Justice for resolution, in accordance with the provisions of Article 146(3)”
