- Super OD is also known as one of the best stand-up comedians Ghana has ever had
- He received surprised visit and financial support from the Ghana Actors Guild
Veteran Ghanaian actor and comedian Asonaba Kwaku Darko, popularly known in the movie industry as Super OD, has been presented with money and some items, following a visit by Ghana Actors Guild.
Super OD was a very popular figure in the Ghana movie industry during the 70s' through to the late 90s' and starred in a host of movies, as well as comedy series.
The veteran actor has, however, not been in good health lately, prompting some members of the Ghana Actors Guild to move in quickly to lend their support.
A delegation made of the Guild's President Samuel Fiscian, Welfare Officer Kalsoume Sinare and Secretary Ziggy Netteyson paid a courtesy call on Super OD at his residence in Agona Swedru in the Central Region and presented him with some items, including a mobile phone and an undisclosed amount of money.
Speaking after the donation, president of the Ghana Actors Guild Samuel Fiscian said the gesture was in acknowledgement of the veteran actor's contributions to the movie industry during his active days.
According to him, the Ghana Actors Guild has been on a "regional tour to meet our members, encourage new actors to join and donate to the aged and sickly members."
He added in an interview with Citi Showbiz that: "I don’t know if he ever was a member but all I know is that currently, he is not a member of the guild. However, we acknowledge his contributions to acting in Ghana so we presented him cash and also a mobile phone so we can stay connected with him."
Super OD lasted in the Ghana movie industry for nearly three decades, rising to become one of the most admired actors during his active days.
