- He driver threatened the passenger after she cancelled her booking
The Police in Agbogba, a suburb of Accra have arrested a Ghanaian driver working with a private transport firm Uber, after threatening a passenger with death.
The suspect, only identified as Abass issued series of threats to spiritually deal with a female passenger in three days, after she called back to cancel her booking for a trip.
According to the victim Monica, she got stranded and therefore decided to cancel her booking, after releasing that the Uber driver was not conversant with the route.
Monica said though the company charged GHc5 for her cancellation, Abass felt livid, arguing that she [the passenger] had wasted his time and fuel.
The driver therefore threatened her with death. “Never think you are going to get it easy for making me drive here and wasted fuel. I’m going to deal with you spiritually. I give you 3 days and you will learn from that,” one of the messages Abass sent to the passenger read.
Monica in a media interview insisted that, despite the terrifying text messages, the driver also kept calling her repeating his threats.
“I knew they will charge me for cancelling the booking after 5 minutes so I was ready for that. But this driver then started calling me and issuing out threats so I told my sister and then reported the matter to the police and subsequently he was arrested at the Atomic junction,” she recounted.
Meanwhile, the Uber Home office in Italy has called Monica to apologize to her over the development. They have also urged her to pursue the matter legally.
