- A group of NPP youth stormed a town hall meeting to vent their frustrations about their unemployment situation
- They threatened to disrupt normal activities in Tema with a huge demonstration if their pleas are not heard
- The NPP secretary has pooh-poohed their warnings, stating government will not be forced in submission by the demands of the youth
John Boadu, the Acting General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, has said that government will not succumb to the threats of some members of the youth wing of the party.
According to him, the plight of the unemployed youth was a cause for concern, but it did not mean government would be easily influenced by threats.
The NPP secretary stated that they had every right to complain and protest against their situation, but only as long as it remained lawful. He stressed that any lawbreakers would be duly punished.
“It is not surprising that the youth who have contributed their quota towards the NPP victory and who still don’t have jobs will be asking questions. I think it is something we must embrace and work towards creating enough space for our party’s youth and the youth of our country.
It is the mode and aggression that we will disagree with. The unemployment situation is widespread that if something is not done will haunt us all,” he stated.
The NPP secretary further noted that while government had a responsibility to ensure equal employment opportunities for all, youth who take the aggressive route to getting their concerns heard will be strictly dealt with.
He declared that the security agencies are on high alert to apprehend individuals who take the law into their own hands.
In a report by Joy FM, Mr. Boadu was responding to the rants of some NPP youth who stormed a town hall meeting venue in Tema on Tuesday.
The youth had complained that they were still unemployed even after six months of the NPP government in power.
They threatened demonstrate against government all over Tema in a manner that disrupt the daily life as part of their attempts to draw government’s attention to them.
