Anti galamsey task force arrest over 80 suspects in just one week

The anti-galamsey task force deployed to check the menace of illegal mining across the country claims to have arrested close to 80 suspects during its recent operations.

These suspects, the head of the task force, Colonel William Agyapong reveals, were caught at various illegal mining pits especially in the Ashanti and Western regions.

So far, over 400 soldiers are said to have been deployed across the country in a move governemnt believes could drastically end the culture of illegal mining.

The arrests and seizures come even after earlier waves of arrests and seizures embarked on by district and municipal task forces since the government declared war on illegal mining.

In the meantime, government has suspended the activity of small scale mining across the country as part of efforts to restore all affected water bodies.
