- The miners were arrested while mining illegally in their pits
All efforts are being made to clamp down on illegal mining once and for all as the deployment of an anti-galamsey task force continues to intensify such move.
YEN.com.gh had earlier reported of how over 80 illegal miners were arrested by the task force but recent checks from the quarters of the anti-galamsey team reveals that the number has increased to 108 in just the past days.
Speaking to Joy FM on this troubling development, deputy Eastern Regional Police PRO, Inspector Gideon Boateng recounted how the said illegal miners were seen busily mining at their pits in the wake of the arrests.
Despite efforts to clamp down on the menace of illegal mining, some reports have surfaced of how illegal miners are clashing with the security agencies who they claim are kicking them off their source of livelihood.
Meanwhile, president of the republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has insisted that his government is not against mining but rather illegal mining activities which continue to affect water bodies like the Pra River.
