- Fortunate Chidzivo is one of the most decorated Zimbabwean female boxer
- She, however, dropped the boxing ring for the tracks
- She is set to compete during the IAAF Championships being hosted in London
Fortunate Chidzivo has constantly seen herself as to a greater extent a boxer than a marathon sprinter.
Nevertheless, over the weekend, the middle-aged athlete lined up with some of the most decorated marathon runners on the planet at the IAAF World Championships in London.
The 30-year old, who only took to street running as part of her boxing training is certain of snatching a medal in her first international competition.
But that is just half of the story.
In a recent interview, Chidzivo uncovered that her present prominence as both a boxer and a marathoner happened when circumstances led her to the two completely unconnected disciplines when she met Zimbabwe's marathon runner Collen Makaza.

And apparently, Makaza, alongside other athletes prevailed upon her to drop the boxing ring for the tracks.
The events preceded a training session where both Makaza and Chidzivo had participated.
Later, the single mother of one is said to have competed in local races, coming out tops often. And since then, she has not looked back.
As a boxer, she has represented her nation in several competitions - including the Africa Boxing Cup where she scooped a silver medal.
Despite the accomplishments, Chidzivo appears to have a new-found passion for marathon - dropping the ring for the track.
She has been training in Ethiopia and China as she prepares all-important chapter in her life for the IAAF Championships in London.
Her race has been slated for August 8.
