The Suame Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service in the Ashante Region have arrested the driver of the truck that killed two women yesterday in Kumasi accident.
The driver whose identity is not yet known was driving a DAF articulator truck with registration number AS 1917, when the accident occurred.
The heavy duty truck was parked with loaded cement when it suddenly took off from where it was, running into several stores near a market at Race Course.
The accident which happened yesterday around 9am took the life of a young lady and another woman, leaving several others injured.
One of the deceased according to Police was a first year student of St. Louis College of Education, whiles the other was only identified as a market woman.
According to an eyewitness, it took the intervention of another brave driver who jumped into the moving truck; steering it to safety to save many more lives and properties.
“The car was parked at the top of the hill with no driver in it. All of a sudden it took off and one driver who was sitting around ran to steer it into the bushes, but it dragged off a woman who was selling her wares beside the road”, another terrified market woman who witnessed the accident told the media in her account.
According to the woman, the first year student, identified as Bernice Taye was instantly killed in the accident, when she decided to cash out some mobile money from an MTN vendor nearby the road.
An Assembly Member of the area, Safo Kesse has so far confirmed that, the bodies of the victims have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, whiles several others injured were responding to treatment.
But some women who witnessed the accident have express suspicion that, the death toll might be more than two as being reported.
