- Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah indicated that the provision of jobs was one of the main campaign promises of the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP)
- He again stated that the decision to cut down on taxes was a bad one, as there would be no resources to fund public sector employment
Dr. Ekwow Spio – Garbrah, formerly a minister of Trade and Industry, has revealed that the simple reason the government claims it cannot no longer increase the number of workers in the public sector is because they over promised and are currently under delivering.
He finds it amazing that that a party that rode on the promise of better jobs into victory, could now say that there is the need to cut done on public sector employment.
He added that by scraping taxes, the government has reduced its sources of income, and as such, there was very little one could do.
His comments are in relation to a recent disclosure by the senior minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo, that the public sector no longer has the capacity to employ people.

Dr. Spio – Garbrah added that reason the for that course of action was that there were no resources to pay them.
He went on to wonder why about 110 ministers were employed, when the resources used to keep in office could have been directed at more productive opportunities.
