A 91-year-old woman identified as Kim-Iun Jinakul has graduated from the Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University.
The old woman’s family escorted her to the university on Wednesday, August 9, to collect her Bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology.
According to the grandmother, her childhood dream was to learn because knowledge is an important part of self-development.
She noted that she had applied to study at the university in 1998 but due to her family business she had to suspend her study.
In 2011, the old woman was finally able to resume her studies.
Jinakul said: “If we don’t learn, don’t read and know nothing, how can we talk with someone else? If we always read – be it a newspaper or listen to news broadcasts – we will be kept abreast with the goings-on in the world, in our country and in the society.”
Acting rector of the university, Panumas Kudungaongarm, explained that the university has tailored its courses to suit the wishes of the elderly.
