- Some staff from the EC sent a petition to the presidency demanding that Charlotte Osei be impeached
- This call has been seconded by the PPP leader who said all the EC commissioners must be removed from their positions
Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, the 2016 flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party has demanded that the 7 commissioners of the Electoral Commission of Ghana be dismissed.
“I’m putting it all back to how the EC has been set up and how it has been working over the years. We must find ways to improve the laws that ensure their appointment. But Before we go onto that, those people sitting there as commissioners, by right, we should all demand that they should go, they should be sacked, all the commissioners,” he stated.
According to a Starr FM report, the PPP leader opined that the rot at the institution is embarrassing to the nation.
Dr. Nduom was reacting to the scandal that has rocked the EC over some allegations of corruption and embezzlement, where Charlotte Osei was accused by some staff of being corrupt and misusing her position as chairperson.
She in turn accused her two deputy commissioners of misappropriating the resources of the institution.
A petition was sent to the presidency by some disgruntled staff of the EC, who asked the president to impeach Charlotte Osei.
Many national stakeholders have argued that the disturbance at the EC calls its integrity into question, however the matter has since been forwarded to the office of the Chief Justice for investigations.
