Police impound 112 parcels of cocaine, 17 wraps of weed in Eastern Region

- The Police have arrested two persons in connection with the drugs

- They say both suspects are in custody pending investigations

Personnel of the Ghana Police Service under Eastern Regional Command have impounded some 112 parcels of powdered substances suspected to be cocaine.

The Police have also confiscated some additional 17 pieces of compressed parcels of Marijuana.

The two banned substances were seized in a separate operations by the Police task force.

According to the Police, the suspected cocaine was confiscated by the Akim Oda Police upon a tip off on August 8, 2017. The Police say the suspect, Ibrahim Nuhu who was transporting the illicit drug from Oda to Accra is currently in Police custody pending further investigations.

Meanwhile, the Police at Akwadum Check Point near Koforidua also on August 9, 2017 in a routine operation uncovered 17 parcels of marijuana, in a 15-seater Toyota Vehicle with registration number ER 2158 - 13.

The vehicle which had 13 passengers on board also had one big ‘Ghana must Go bag’ containing the marijuana.

The 45-year-old driver, whose name was given as Shaibu Issah told Police in his account that, the items were given to him by a male friend to deliver to one Rasta at Agona Swedru.

According to the deputy PRO of the Eastern Regional Police Command, Inspector Gideon Boateng, the driver of the vehicle have been arrested to assist police in their investigations.

Some reports indicate that, drug menace within the region have become alarming, after a major suspected cocaine baron was arrested 2016, but was shockingly set free by the Police without any charges.
