- Simon Kato and Linda Rui started their romance on Instagram
- Simon complimented on one of her photos
- They soon started chatting, went on a date and are now engaged to be married
A couple in Uganda have shared how a simple comment on Instagram kindled their adorable cross-cultural romance.
Last year, Simon Kato came across Linda Rui's photograph on Instagram. She was dressed in an African outfit and he complimented her on her looks.
Speaking to Daily Monitor, Kato, 26, said: “I found it amazing that this white girl was dressed beautifully in African fabric.”
They soon started chatting regularly on social media and before long, Kato asked her out on a date. This was in November 2016.
Their romance blossomed and Kato romantically popped the question during a date. A waiter brought a covered plate that Rui thought was a mystery meal but which hid an engagement ring. She said yes.
The couple spoke about the challenges they face and the biggest one is language. When they go out to social functions, most people speak local Ugandan languages, leaving Rui feeling somewhat out of place.
The other challenge is people's perceptions that Kato is out to make money or gain citizenship in Norway through her.
They both dispute this, with the 27-year-old Rui saying: “I do not really focus on what people say. Personality is what matters.”
All the best to the lovable couple! Watch a related video below.
