A photographer from Colorado, US who has vitiligo has showcased the beauty of those living with the skin disorder in a series of stunning photos.
27-year-old Jasmin Colgan has taken the photos as part of her project known as Tough Skin. Several individuals can be seen in the images proudly displaying their skin.
In an interview with Daily Mail, Colgan said she first noticed patches on her skin when she was 21. Although she was initially apprehensive about the condition, she decided to embrace it after realizing it could be seen as a work of art.
She said: "It became a relieving experience to express my emotions and capture them in a still life. As I shared my images, they showed my insecurities and somehow connected me with myself."
She added that she got the idea of "Tough Skin" from her late grandmother who told her after her diagnosis: "You gotta have tough skin."
Since then, she has broadened its meaning to include other conditions, such as albinism, cerebral palsy and down syndrome. In this way, she said, "we're all beautiful."
