- Kenyan lady angered by lack of prosthetic leg that matches her skin color
- The 30-year-old amputee lost her left leg and was in need of prosthetic one
- Doctors asked for more cash to make her customized leg. That did not go down well
A 30-year-old Kenyan lady living in Canada has launched scathing attack on amputee organizations after she failed to find a prosthetic leg that matched her complexion.
Rahab Wanjau had her left leg amputated last year and was looking for an artificial replacement. But to her shock, there was no prosthetic leg that had her skin color. Doctors reportedly asked her to pay more if she wanted a customized leg.
“They told me I had to pay extra for a leg that matched my skin tone. They said my skin color was not covered in my health card,” Wanjau recalls.

Since she was not ready to cough out more cash for the special leg, she was reportedly forced to choose between two prosthetic leg, one with light skin color and the other with dark complexion.
But she wasn’t going to let the matter rest there. Wanjau went as far as contacting the companies that manufactured prosthetic legs to give them her piece of mind.
