- Ghana has indicted its intention to send relief items to disaster-stricken Sierra Leone as a matter of urgency
- Lives and property have been lost as a result of a mudslide that occured on Monday August 14, 2017
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo has assured the government and the people of Sierra Leone that relief items would be sent to them soon.
He had earlier called on the president of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma to express Ghana’s grief upon hearing the unfortunate incident that occurred in their country.
About 400 lives were reportedly lost when disaster structure the country on Monday August 14, 2017. A hillside in the mountaneous town of Regent collapsed and caused damage to lives and property.
Ghana’s deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, Charles Owiredu, had earlier stated that the ministry is collaborating with the ministry of Finance to send a package to Sierra Leone as a matter of urgency.
According to Koroma, the incident was an unfortunate one, and the country is under lots of pressure as it struggles to regain its feet.
