- He is warning illegal miners not to dare them
Major Retired Derek Oduro, the Deputy Minister of Defence has warned that, a team of Police and Military taskforce deployed to fight galamsey will not hesitate in shooting at illegal miners who threaten their lives.
According to him, Operation Vanguard owe it a duty to make sure that, illegal miners polluting water bodies do not visit mining sites to conduct any activities.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Abusua FM, the retired army officer insisted that, government is not going to allow activities of illegal miners to destroy farmlands; depriving people of their livelihood.
Therefore, illegal miners should fully cooperate with members of the taskforce to avert brutalities and bloodshed.
The Deputy Minister in his conversation lamented that, some detractors of Akufo-Addo administration are spreading falsehood in a bid to defeat the whole mission of Operation Vanguard.
He also described as unfortunate the crossfire which resulted in the death of one of the galamseyers at Anyimadukrom in the Ashanti Region weeks ago.
Major Derek Oduro therefore called on residents of mining communities to volunteer information to the Police to help investigate any report of abuse by the military taskforce.
