Two persons have been confirmed dead - one dying instantly and the other also passing on despite being rushed to the Tema General Hospital - with the third victim currently receiving treatment after being severely wounded.
The Daily Guide reports that the three victims, while doing some hot fabrications on the fuel tank, saw the pressure build up the more, leading to an explosion.
The administrative manger of the soap manufacturing company is quoted to have said that the wielders were "trying to de-sludge it [the fuel tank], they had to cut an area to enable the process to be easily done; then all of a sudden, the thing exploded.”
A member of the Tema Regional Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Timothy K. Affum, explaining the incident said: "Our investigations revealed that they were doing some hot works at the time and they were virtually done with it, because what they were doing at the time of the explosion was grinding to ensure that the outer side of the tank was smooth when the explosion occurred."
Personnel from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) were also present to do some checks on the exact cause of the explosion.
