John Agyekum Kufuor, a former president of Ghana thinks the New Patriotic Party's "Free SHS" project is step in the right direction; but not only that, he also thinks the opposition National Democratic Congress are "laughable" for opposing it.
John Kufuor made mockery of the NDC's stance against Free SHS in an interview with the Kumasi-based radio station, Silver FM.
YEN.com.gh has reportedly extensively on how the NDC, even when in power, had strongly opposed the Free SHS campaign.
According to some high ranking member of the NDC, the project was not thought out well and would be strenuous on Ghana's economy, thus impossible to implement.
However, despite all the opposition, the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government has announced that the project would take off in September 2017.
John Kufuor commended the presidency for the insistent belief in the program saying that such strong belief in policies is what would transform Ghana in the coming months.
"Nana Akufo-Addo had insisted that the Free SHS policy is possible during the two times that he contested for the presidency and lost and on his third attempt, he again stressed that the Free SHS will come, and indeed it is coming," the former president said.
He expressed his surprise at how the NDC have consistently stood their ground against the progamme.
Kufuor, in his final remarks called on all Ghanaians to embrace the Free SHS initiative and throw in their support to help President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo realize the vision of a free education.
