Rawlings' wife had me jailed - Haruna Attah

- Former High Commissioner to Namibia blames former first lady Konadu Agyeman Rawlings for his being jailed 19 years ago

- Says former president Rawlings never jailed him during his time as president

- Alhaji Haruna Attah is married to Mrs. Rawlings' younger sister

Veteran Ghanaian journalist, Mr. Rahman Haruna Attah, has said former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, was the reason why he was jailed for 30 days almost two decades ago.

According to the seasoned journalist, former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings was instrumental in having himself and fellow veteran journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baaku, sentenced to 30 days of jail time on July 23rd, 1998.

The Former first lady filed a defamation lawsuit against the two at a High Court in Accra, she sought to have an interim injunction placed on the two journalist to stop them from printing anymore material on her.

While the trial was ongoing, Mrs. Rawlings filed another contempt charge against the two editors that had them thrown in jail for thirty days respectively.

According to Alhaji Haruna Atta, who is also Ghana's former High Commissioner to Namibia, even though he'd written many articles on former president Jerry John Rawlings, to "his eternal glory" the former president never used the powers of the presidential office to harm him.

"I went to jail, not because of him but it was his wife who sued me and Kweku Baako”, he continued.

Mrs. Rawlings' zeal to pursue the case seemed to run out of steam after the two journalists' sentencing.

While Alhaji Harruna Attah is married to Madam Yaa Agyeman-Attah, Mrs. Rawlings' sister, the former high commissioner to Namibia said the families live in peace as all issues have been settled.
