- Lucky, 38, is proud of her financial independence
- She was among the first women in her community to ride a motorcycle
- She understands the value of educating her daughters
A 38-year-old woman in Bangladesh is leading the way in her conservative community as far as defying gender expectations is concerned.
Lucky shared her inspiring story on photojournalist GMB Akash’s Facebook page.
She began by saying: “When I first came with my motorcycle to this village, a lot of villagers gathered and surrounded me like they never saw something like this before.”
Because of her, many more girls in her community now see nothing wrong with riding motorcycles.
She added that her husband liked her because she was different from other girls. He is supportive and even told her not to listen to negative comments from people.
Lucky said her mother did not get education because she was married off at the age of seven. However, she made sure Lucky got education, which is benefitting her now.
Lucky is now also making sure her two daughters get education. She recalled her mother’s words: “Lucky, you have to be independent; you have to [get] a job and fulfill all your dreams.”
Her post inspired many commenters. See some of their reactions below.
