- Hilda Gacheri who stole the hearts of Kenyans by improvising a shopping bag from banana fritters has been appointed environment ambassador

- Gacheri had walked into a Supermarket on her way back to school with a shopping back that got her labelled as a witch by some and as a heroine by others

- She has been praised as the next Wangari Maathai as Kenyans grapple with the plastic ban which took effect a fortnight ago

Hilda Gacheri broke the internet a few days after the government banned the use of plastic bags in Kenya about a fortnight ago.

Hilda who couldn't afford a proper school bad to carry her shopping while she reported back to school was spotted carrying her shopping in a shopping bag made from banana fritters.

Her pictures immediately went viral with people calling out NEMA to look into her situation.

NEMA finally heard the cries and visited Hilda at her school Materi Girls with good news.

She received great news that she was officially Kenyans environment ambassador.

The student is also due to meet the CS for environment on a later date.
