- President Mahama says Ghanaian leaders are no longer patriotic
- He says they're only interested in amassing fortunes for their families
Ex-President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken-over by selfish 'political cabals' who are bent to enrich themselves and their families with the resources of the country.
The former NDC leader says these self-seeking opportunists don’t have the interest of the nation at heart but looking for avenues to accumulate fortunes and wealth for their families.
Speaking at the NDC Ideological School, President Mahama lamented that current crop of leaders are just not interested in helping their nations.
“We all think about ourselves first, our families second, our parties third maybe our communities fourth and Ghana comes a fifth or even 10th," President Mahama said.
President Mahama in his address submitted that, nationalism and patriotism have become very deficient in Ghana today.
He added that “nobody thinks about the country first; we all think about ourselves first, our families second, our parties third, maybe, our communities fourth and Ghana comes a distant fifth or sixth or even tenth,”
The NDC launched the National Institute of Social Democracy about a month ago with the aim of inculcating the party’s principles, ideologies, and values to its members.
The school was setup to help train party members on the social democratic philosophy and also foster patriotism among members.
The former president was confident the institute will help address the problem of parochialism, disunity and back-biting in the party, as they seek to forge a united front into the 2020 elections.
