Belinda Nana Akua Amoah, popularly known as singer Mzbel, has responded to jabs by some sections of the public for enrolling her son under the Free SHS program.
The singer on Monday, posted a photo of herself and her son leaving an enrollment process at the Achimota School.
She took to her Facebook page to commend government on the policy and confirmed that indeed the Free SHS program was in full force.
This show of approval from the singer prompted some sections of the public to call her out for siding with the Akufo-Addo administration, when she is a known sympathizer of the National Democratic Congress.
However, Mzbel has responded to the criticisms by the public, stating politics should not be the reason for disapproving a commendable project.
She wrote on her Facebook wall: “I am amazed by how people have reacted after I mentioned my Free SHS experience. Come on! Are we not expected to support what is Good and condemn what’s not? This doesn’t mean I have switched to NPP because I am a proud supporter of the NDC, but don’t forget I am a Ghanaian too. I care about the progress of this country and policies that will make life easier for all.
I strongly believe that politics shouldn’t divide us. It should rather be a platform to propel the sharing of forward moving ideas and the ability to support what will make the life of those who vote for us better. Let’s not deceive ourselves with the sides we stand on.“
According to the singer, if the program fails to fulfill to live up to expectations, she would still be truthful and criticize it.
She further urged the president to ensure that the policy applies to second and third year secondary school students as well.
