YEN.com.gh has learnt a recent Junior High School graduate has embarked on a hunger strike because she could not gain admission into her choice of Senior High School.
According to reports, the graduate passed the 2016 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) with flying colours.
Rachael Achia, the aggrieved student, got aggregate 9 in the BECE but could raise money to secure her admission into Ghana Senior High School.
StarrFMOnline.com reports that the death of Rachael's father had caused the family to go through tumultous financial upsets.
The determined youngster, reportedly decided to take the opportunity offered this year, to enroll in SHS under the Free SHS programme.
However, her ambitions reportedly hit a snag when she was not given a placement by the Computerized School Selection and Placement System.
"When I completed school last year I lost my father and I was unable to enroll at Ghana Senior High School in Koforidua and my Mother asked me to stay at home till this year for free SHS", she was said to have told Starr FM.
The student revealed that her mother had asked her to go back to JHS and rewrite the BECE exams, but she stated that it was out of her options after she had already passed with flying colors.
"I feel all hope is lost because I cannot go back and write after getting aggregate 9," Rachael said according to the Starr FM report.
