Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, has revealed that he could not hold back his tears when news of the commencement of the Free SHS initiative broke.
The NPP stalwart, affectionately known as Chairman Wontumi, stated that when the news made BBC and CNN, he broke down in tears.
He described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the “saviour” of the country in recent times with the implementation of his campaign promises.
While speaking on the local radio station, NEAT FM, Wontumi said, “I watched the launch of the free SHS policy on BBC and CNN. They said President Nana Addo has introduced free education to Ghana. I couldn’t help but to cry".
He continued to state that he felt proud to have been a member of the party whose government started the initiative.
"I felt proud to be a member of the NPP and regional Chairman of the party,” he said.
After years of being used as a campaign promise by the NPP, President Nana Addo on September 12, finally launched the Free SHS initiative albeit only for first year students.
The NPP has promised to expand the initiative to cover other stages of high scholl education over the next few years.
