Cristiano Ronaldo strike twice as Real Madrid down APOEL

- Harry Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo score twice in wins for Spurs, Real Madrid

- Dortmund bossed possession against Spurs but could not make chances count

- Real Madrid top group H with Mauricio Pocettinho's side second in the standings

Real Madrid started the defense of their Champions League crown with a huge 3 - 0 home win over APOEL.

Cristiano Ronaldo gave Zinedane Zidane's men the lead in the 11th minute with a simple tap-in at the far post from Gareth Bale's cross which was not cleared.

Madrid were forced to take off youngster Mateo Kovacic for Toni Kroos just around the half hour mark after the Croatian picked up an injury.

Ronaldo netted the second goal of the game in the 51th minute via the penalty spot after a handball by defender Lago.

Sergio Ramos scored an overhead kick from close range for Los Blancos third. Marcelo's cross was headed back by Gareth Bale for the defender to deal with.

Meanwhile in the other group H game, Tottenham Hotspurs secured a 3 - 1 win over German giants Borussia Dortmund.

Spurs took the lead through Heung Son-Min who gave Mauricio Pochettino's team the lead in the fourth minute with a deft shot from a tight angle on the left.

Dortmund's press eventually paid off when new signing Andriy Yarmolenko equalized in the 11th minute with a curling effort after he was teed up by Shinji Kagawa.

Kane put Spurs ahead in the 15th minute when he lashed unto a long ball from Jan Vertonghen, bullies Omar Toprak and Sokratis to slot past Burki in goal.

Spurs got a third through Harry Kane.

Real Madrid now top group H level on points with Tottenham.
