- Jose Mourinho lost a lot of weight over the summer working out at Carrington
- Insider claims staff were not surprised he was growing a pot-belly as he was over 50
- The Portuguese has been spotted working out in the gym more since last season
Jose Mourinho's decision to shed some weight over the summer has led the staff at Manchester United's Carrington training base to give him a new nickname.
According to media reports, the 54-year-old lost weight over the summer at the club’s Carrington during training.
To acknowledge the weigh loss, staff at Carrington have started calling the Portuguese 'the skinny one.
An insider is quoted as saying: “Jose puts so much effort into his sessions, both mentally and physically. It’s hardly surprising.
“It’s perhaps a little unfair to say he was gaining a pot-belly, as he is now a man in his fifties.
“The problem is living in a hotel hasn’t exactly been conducive to staying in tip-top shape.
“He went with the squad to the United States in pre-season and a few of the staff have privately commented he is looking a lot slimmer these days.
“He’s been spotted around the gym a bit more. He has shed some weight and is looking in tip-top shape.”
When he first arrived in English football back in 2004, he called himself the special one while on his return to Chelsea in 2013 he called himself the happy one.
