Atletico Madrid have made a whooping £54m bid for want-away Diego Costa despite the La Liga club still serving a transfer ban until January.

Marca claim Atletico are planning to announce the player when they move into their new stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano near Madrid’s airport.

The Spanish club turned the former athletics stadium into a 67,000-capacity arena.

According to media reports, Diego Simeone's side are confident of securing the striker who scored scored 43 goals in La Liga and 11 in the Champions League during his eight seasons at the Vicente Calderon.

Costa has scored 58 goals for Chelsea since joining the West London club in 2014, for a fee of £32m.

However, he has since been deemed unwanted by manager Antonio Conte this season.
