The granny, whose name has been withheld, made the thoughtful gesture at the Zithulele Hospital in the Eastern Cape province.
The hospital shared her story on Facebook, where it has touched the hearts of many users.
The post said the granny wanted to do something productive as she recovered. Staff therefore got her some wool and knitting needles.
Her blankets are now keeping kids in the pediatric ward warm.
