Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi in the Eastern Region of Ghana has reportedly offered scholarship to 200 students from the Akuapim North District constituency.
YEN.com.gh has learnt that the said scholarship will act as a supplement to the current Free SHS initiative by the New Patriotic Party government.
200 students from SHS Forms 2 and 3, Teacher and Nursing Training Colleges, Polytechnics and Universities were selected as successful applicants into the scheme.
While speaking at the presentation of the scholarships, the young NPP MP admonished the beneficiaries to make Ofoase-Ayirebi proud.
"Through this initiative we hope to keep about 200 students every year in school starting from this year."
"To you who are beneficiaries don’t let me down, don’t let your parents down and don’t let the people of Ofoase-Ayirebi down," Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah emphasised.
The move by Oppong-Nkrumah to offer the said students the scholarship was hailed by the District Chief Executive of the area,Paul Asamoah.
Mr. Asamoah stated that the schemed had "taken away immense pressure" from him.
He also took the opportunity to assured the constituents that the NPP government would continue to deliver on all its promises to the electorate.
Parents of beneficiaries could not hide their joy, heaped praises on the MP for the timely intervention.
According to a report by Citi FM, one of such parents said, "Most of us have been considering going for loans to enable us pay our children’s’ fees. The scholarship is a relief on my finances and that of several other households".
