Premier League giants Liverpool were defeated 2-0 by Leicester City at the King power stadium.
The Reds made eight changes to the team that were held by Burnley on Saturday, although Philippe Coutinho kept his place as Jugern Klopp continue to seek his first silverware with the club.
The first half ended in a draw as both team’s defence stood resilient.
The deadlock was however broken in the 65th minutes when a ball dropped kindly for Okazaki in the six yards box, who netted from close range.
Slimani doubled Leicester’s advantage in the 78th minutes with a screamer taking the game away from the visitors.
The victory takes the former English premier league winners to the next round of the competition as it sends the Red crashing out, making Klopp look elsewhere for his first taste of silverware with the club.
In other League cup actions, West Ham defeated visiting Bolton Wanderers 3-0 at the London stadium. The goals were scored by Arthur Masuaku, Diafra Sakho and Angelo Obinze Ogbonna in the 90th, 31st and 4th minutes respectively.
Middleborough won John Terry’s Aston Villa 2-0 at Villa Park, Swansea defeated Reading 0-2 at the Madejski Stadium.
Another surprise of the night was Premier League side Stoke City losing 2-0 to Championship side Bristol City, in other League cup games as Tottenham defeated Championship side Barnsley 1-0.
