Member of parliament for the Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Agyapong has hinted of the imminent trial of former head of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Stephen Opuni and other former appointees under the Mahama administration.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, a case has been filed against Opuni who remains on the top list of former government officials very much wanted for prosecution by government.

“I can state categorically that some documents for the prosecution of some corrupt NDC officials are ready. I know of Opuni’s own and some four others. I know all these documents are ready and are in the custody of the CID and I can assure you that they will not go scot-free,” he disclosed on ‘National Agenda’, He revealed in an engagement with NET 2 TV.

Also, Ken Agyapong revealed that government has already decided to jail Stephen Opuni over the various corruption allegations and reports against him.

“Opuni will go to jail and I will make sure he pays dearly for his crime. If we refuse to jail him, Ghanaians will vote against us in the [elections] next four years and so we need to get corrupt officials like him away from the country,” Mr Agyapong said.

The revelation by Kennedy reveals government’s recent plans of bringing on board the special prosecutor aimed at investigating all cases of corruption and abuse of incumbency.
