Fake it till you make it was surely the tagline used to accompany the news of a Kenya man who reportedly turned an old Mercedes Benz into a Roll Royces.
If you haven't come across the viral story, they you have probably been living under a rock.
About two days ago, social media was abuzz with news of one Kenyan "genius" who literally transformed an old 1987 Mercedes-Benz E230 into a Rolls-Royce Phantom.
The reports, which were published by several online media, including OMGVoice.com, Nairaland.com, Ghafla.com among others were accompanied with photos which supposedly showed the process by the said Kenyan man.
However, the said reports failed to mention the genius and the accompanying pictures also failed to show the genius at work.
In trying to confirm the reports, check by YEN.com.gh revealed that the story of the Kenyan transforming a Mercedes Benz into a Roll Royce was very fake - but the pictures were not.
A reverse image search revealed that the pictures were actually from Kazakhstan, a country we have difficulty spelling.
According to online reports from 2016, the photos were from the transformation of an W124 E-Class facelift from the 1990s into a Rolls-Royce by the "crazy" Kazakhstani tuners.
How African media got to report it as Kenyan genius is a story for the gods, but one thing is sure, fake it till you make was the right tagline for the earlier reports as they were all fake news.
