The former president of Ghana and the 2016 president candidate of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, deserves to be given praise in Ghana’s victory in the maritime dispute with Ivory Coast.
This is according to Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga.
He stated that Ghanaians need to appreciate and give John Mahama commendation for his insight into the matter.
During his term in office, John Mahama initiated proceedings against the Cote d'Ivoire in 2014.
After almost 3 years running, the Germany-based International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) gave its much-awaited ruling on the four-year maritime dispute between Ghana and Ivory Coast.
The Chamber said Ivory Coast did not produce a resounding argument that bilateral talks held over the matter with Ghana were not meaningful.
It also rejected Ghana’s claim that it had an agreement with its neighbour over the marine borders.
Ghanaians have been full of praise for the current government led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for claiming victory in the tribunal.
However, Mr Ayariga was quick to remind Ghanaians that Mr Mahama must be acknowledged if the country is celebrating those who delivered the victory.
