- Belal is 10 years old and loves reading and writing
- However, poverty is keeping him away from school
- He also has to work and help his mother
A 10-year-old Bangladeshi boy loves reading and writing but is unable to go to school because of poverty.
Belal shared his story with GMB Akash, a prominent Bangladeshi photojournalist, who then shared it on his Facebook page.
He began by saying: "I know how to read and write. I have all kind of books that I collected from dump yard. The story book that I collected a few days ago is my favorite though its last pages are missing."
He added: "But I do not like to go to school. My class mates hate me and insults me by saying I smell awful. They have no idea that I cannot take shower every day."
Belal explained that water is scarce in the slum he lives in. They can only get enough water to cook.
Furthermore, he has to work at a tannery to supplement his family's income and support his mother.
Commenters expressed their sympathy for Belal and some even offered to help. See some of their reactions below.
