YEN.com.gh tells the story about how the owner of a deceased 23-year old dog held a mega funeral for it after dying a natural death. The funeral is reported to have attracted hundreds of sympathizers across the Volta Region and even parts of the world.
What would you do when you realize that the very pet you love so much love dies? Well, the answer can be found from the strange but heart-warming story of how a man in the Volta Region held a grand funeral for his 23-year-old dog.
The funeral of the dog, called Forfoe, saw hundreds of sympathisers and well-wishers across the Volta Regional town of Ehi near Sogakope including others around the world attend the solemn funeral.
Owner of the dog, Stephen Atatsithe, has narrated how his pet had behaved beyond the characteristics of a normal as he revealed this dog knew not just family members of Stephen but also every member of the Ehi community.
“The dog 23-years-old belonged to my late mother. It stayed with her for 11 years and it has been 12 years since she passed on," he revealed in an interview with Joy News.
The majestic funeral of Forfoe remains in sharp contrast with the way and manner most Ghanaians treat their pets as most people relegate them for the purposes of just making meals and security.
As it stands now, Ghana has now established laws regarding the rights of animals across the country – a development which raises questions over the safety of the country’s wild-life and domestic pets as well.
