The New Patriotic Party’s flagship Free SHS program has taken over the headlines with many stories from different angles related to the educational program.
One of the latest stories to be associated with the program is the discovery of a 12-year old boy whose academic prowess has catapulted him years ahead of his colleagues to also benefit from the program.
Jeremiah Ngambire is a 12-year old who is believed to hail from Pelungu in the Nabdam District and a Freshman of Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO). He sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination as a candidate of Lovely Home Academy in the Central Region and passed to gain admission into the Senior High School.
Speaking in a telephone conversation with his father after a perilous attempt to reach him, it was revealed that the young boy’s age was accurate as he had stated earlier.
Shadrack Ngambire, Jeremiah’s father indicated that his son was born in August 2005 and started schooling at the age of five. He revealed that his son started his primary school education in 2011. He however recounted that the school authorities upon realizing the academic prowess of Jeremiah gave him a double promotion to primary three.
He added that his primary three teacher together with school authorities promoted him from Primary three to Primary five because of his exceptional performance.
The young master who is studying Science won the admiration of many including Joseph Kofi Adda, the current Minister for Water and Sanitation and Member of Parliament (MP) for Navrongo Central, who visited the school recently to observe the implementation of the government’s fee-free education policy in the Upper East Region.
According to a Starr FM reporter, the minister pulled young Jeremiah to his side and enquired from him what program he was studying. The minister then gave him a complimentary card and asked him to deliver it to his parents for a possible scholarship to the university to pursue a course in medicine.
He went ahead to encourage the young man to study had so that he would grow up to become his personal physician in his old age.
