Premier League club Manchester City on Tuesday night, September 26, defeated Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 in an explosive Champions League battle at the Etihad Stadium.
The visitors were impressive in the first 20 minute of the encounter, and they should have scored in the 13th minute when Fred set up Facundo Ferreyra, but he was denied by Manchester City goalie Ederson Moraes.
Leroy Sane and Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero were both superb up front for Manchester City with flurry of attack, but they were denied many times by Donetsk goalkeeper Andriy Pyatou.
The breakthrough however came for Manchester City in the 48th minute when Kevin de Bruyne fired in a powerful shot after being set up by David Silva.
Sergio Aguero had a glorious chance to increase the scoreline for the hosts from the spot in the 85th minute, but the Argentine missed the penalty.
Raheem Sterling scored the second and winning goal for Manchester City at the death after being set up by Bernando Siva as Pep Guardiola's men won the match 2-0.
