A Koforidua Circuit Court has sentenced a 25-year old man who held himself as a police officer to an eight-year jail term.
The convict, Prince Baah was arrested earlier this week by the Eastern Regional Police Command after he was seen posing as a Kumasi-based policeman who had come on leave at Koforidua.
Explaining the circumstances of his arrest, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, stated that Baah was seen wearing police uniform in the Koforidua township but his appearance and conduct gave him up leading to his arrest.
Upon his arrest, a search was conducted in his room at Okorase/Koforidua revealing three set of Ghana police uniform, a name tag bearing No. 50721 Prince Baah, and other police related items.
During interrogation, he told police that he got the uniforms from a police man stationed at Kumasi and Effiduase but bought the other equipment at Asawase in Kumasi.
He was arraigned on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to the charges of impersonation, stealing and deceit of public officer was sentenced on his own plea before an open court
The court presided over by Mercy Addei Kotei sentenced him on his own plea.
