Whenever we think about the police service in Ghana one menace that we always dread to remember is that of the culture of the extortion of monies - an act well known as bribery.
But residents here in the capital city of Accra might have to worry no more over the menace of bribery and corruption in the police department because the newly appointed Greater Accra Regional Commander, DSP Alex Mensah has revealed planned to coming up with strict reforms aimed at ensuring security in the region.
Answering questions on his plans for the Greater Accra region - regarding security - the regional commander revealed that his administration will be putting first efforts to bring a close to armed robbery.
“I am too hot to be in anyone’s pocket, if you put me in your breast pocket, you might have cancer. If you put me in your back pocket, you might not be able to sit down. J. A Mensah is not bribable and I want to be remembered for fighting landguards,” he said.
The new Greater Accra Regional Police Commander has hinted he will not be compromised in his objective to clampdown on armed robbers and land guards in the region.According to DSP Alex Mensah, the Greater Accra region will be the safest place to live in under his administration.
“My main objective is to make Accra safe and ensure that we reduce crime to the barest minimum through the legal means,” he revealed during a familiarization visit to The Multimedia Group, the Regional Police Chief said he will deal with issues of land guards who continue to torment residents of Accra.
DSP Alex Mensah takes over from ACP Timothy Yosa Bonga who was the Regional Police boss until he was transferred to the Police Inspectorate Unit. ACP Bonga was instrumental in the arrest of the notorius 43-year-old armed robber by name Charles Donkor, popularly known as ‘killer’ at Pokuase in Accra. Other armed groups were also arrested under his watch.
