- The US Embassy in Ghana has awarded Madam Charlotte Osei with the Woman of Courage Award
- The Award was for her role in delivering a free and fair general election in 2016
The United Estates Embassy in Ghana has honored the Chairperson of Ghana's Electoral Commission, Madam Charlotte Osei, for role in the delivery of a free and fair general election in December of 2016.
2016's December general elections, where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo finally attained political victory, was probably the most hotly contested presidential election of the fourth republic.
This being the case, the responsibility to deliver Ghanaians a free and fair election fell on the Ghana Electoral Commission, the institution which Madam Charlotte Osei had been heading since late June of 2015.
As contested as it had been, last year's general election was deemed by all to have been a free, fair, and credible general election.
Both the then incumbent president John Dramani Mahama, and the then President Elect Nana Akufo-addo commended the EC Chairperson for her contribution in the elections following the announcement of the election results.
This being the case, the US Embassy in Ghana has honored the EC's Chairperson with the Woman of Courage Award for her efforts in ensuring a free and fair election, and "efforts to boost inclusion and civic engagement.
