Gyan's injury, though, appears to be more serious than first thought, and he has now been completed ruled out of the fate-defining qualifier after failing to recover.

Another notable absentee from the Ghana squad is budding winger Thomas Agyapong who also sustained a muscle tear while playing for his club.

Defenders Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah are also doubts for the Uganda game, as they will need to undertake late tests to prove their fitness.

Two players from the Ghana Premier League made the squad, with Vincent Atingah and Isaac Twum being rewarded with call-ups for their impressive outings in the just-ended CHAN tournament.
