- The Prophet deceived the victim of delivering her from evil spirits
- The Prophet abandoned her and fled after taking the cash
A 52-year-old self-styled Prophet of God has been fined by the Tarkwa District Court for stealing from a local food vendor at Borborbo near Tawkwa in the Western Region.
The Prophet identified as Nana Yaw pleaded guilty to the offense on Monday and was slapped with Gh¢3,120.00 fine by the court for stealing Gh¢540.00.
The convict in default of the payment would be liable to serve a seven month imprisonment.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Joseph Lartey who tendered in evidence in court told the presiding judge, Madam Magdalene Thompson that on September this year the accused in his well-rehearsed plan visited the complainant at home and told her there are some strange evil demonic spirits trailing her business.
The food vendor, one Akua Fosuwa who lives in the same area with Nana Yaw out of fear gave Gh¢40 with the promise of he delivering her from the hands of the spirits.
The police prosecutor said Prophet Nana Yaw returned to Akua Fosuwa days after to request her Bible and demanded her to place all monies left on her for spiritual cleansing.
The Food vendor was said to have obeyed by betting her last Gh¢500 with the hope of securing her breakthrough. The convict then asked Madam Akua to close her eyes for special prayers.
Sergeant Lartey said Prophet Nana Yaw in the process removed the money and replaced it with pieces of papers and handed the Bible back to her.
The prosecution told the court that, the food vendor who wanted to pay her suppliers in the evening opened the Bible only to find papers.
He said Fosuwa then informed her neighbours to mount search for Prophet Nana Yaw, but failed in all efforts.
On September 11, this year, the prosecutor said Fosuwa chanced on the convict who then took to his heels.
Nana Yaw was then given a hot chase and arrested and at Bogoso junction near Tarkwa.
