Akufo-Addo sacks Ghana Technology University President

-The President through the Minister of Communication has sacked the President of GTUC

-An Interim Mangement Team has been set up to oversee the school's affairs temporarily

-GTUC is one of the prestigious private universities in the country

President of the Ghana Technology University College (GTUC), Professor Nana Osei K. Darkwa has been relieved of his duties.

According to a letter signed by the Minister of Communication, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful on behalf of President Nana Akufo-Addo, communicating his sacking, Prof. Darkwa is to hand over immediately.

“On behalf of H.E The President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo, I wish to thank you for your dedicated service to the University College and to the country and to also wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours.

“You are to kindly hand over the administration of the University College to your deputy and apply for all terminal benefits due you as the President of the University College as per your contract,” the letter dated September 25 said.

To ensure a smooth running of the school after Prof. Darkwa hands over, a three-member Interim Management Team has been constituted, led by Prof. Blankson, the Vice President of the University College, Mrs Juliana Owusu Ansah, Registrar and Dr Kweku Arthur, Senior Lecturer.

The GTUC, formerly Ghana Telecom University College was established in 2006 by the national telecoms company to mainly train its engineers.

But it became a fully fledged private university after Vodafone acquired Ghana Telecom and reverted the school to government.

Professor Darkwa has been in charge of the school since became a university and has transformed it into one of the well respected schools in the country.
