Kennedy Ohene-Agyapong, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party and the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has opined that the death of the Net2 journalist in the Atomic Gas explosion was in ‘God’s Plan.’
The Net2 cameraman, Mohammed Ashiley Yakubu, who was also a member of the Presidential Press Corps, fell to his death on Saturday, October 7 in an attempt the film the gas explosion that occurred that night.
Mr. Agyapong, who expressed sorrow at the death of a beloved employee of his Madina-based Kencity Media company, said at the time the incident was announced, all workers were warned not to step out, especially since the lights suddenly went out.
However, being the hard worker he is, Mohammed decided to head to the scene to capture the incident as it happened, and unfortunately died in the process.
In a report by MyNewsGH.com, the Assin Central MP indicated that the cameraman’s demise was clearly an act of God, or destiny at play.
He expressed his condolences to the bereaved family of Mohammed, stating he will be terribly missed by his colleagues and management.
Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo has pledged to support the bereaved family of the cameraman, by covering all the expenses for his funeral.
The president met with the mother of the deceased journalist, Madam Mary Sackey and some family members where he offered his condolences to the family.
The Atomic-Junction explosion is still under investigation, after the ghastly incident that claimed seven lives and injured over 130 people.
