Police relocate Chinese nationals over unrest in Wassa Akropong District

The Ghana Police Service has decided to relocate 48 Chinese nationals who reside in the Wassa Akropong for their own safety following incidents of heightened unrest after one of the Chinese nationals shot and killed a 25 year old Ghanaian man in point blank range.

According to a report by Citi News, relative clam is beginning to return to the Wassa Akropong area after angry local residents took to the streets and vandalized property and set alight several vehicles belonging to Chinese nationals.

The Ghana Police service, in its attempt to return a sense of order to the situation, has decided to relocate 48 Chinese nationals resident in the area due to fears that residents of Wassa Akropong may attempt to avenge one Nana Boamah, a young man killed by one of the Chinese officials.

According to reports, Nana Boamah was called in as a witness in a dispute between a local plumber who's services were sought by one of the aforementioned Chinese nationals. The Chinese national had allegedly refused to pay a fee of Ghc150, which the plumber had charged for his services.

In the ensuing confrontation, the Chinese national brought out a gun but the weapon was seized by the two. A second weapon was brought out and fired by the Chinese national, a shot that dealt took Nana Boamah's life instantly.

Speaking to Citi News, Wassa Akropong District Crime Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Briamah detailed the delicate situation.

The situation is really serious because the Chinese are many and they live differently, so before you realize, there will be fire somewhere, so you rush there with your team. But before you could finish, there is another fire nearby.” He said.
