- Italy were not lucky as they were held to a 1-1 draw by impressive Macedonia
Former world champions Spain has defeated Albania to secure qualification for 2018 World cup in Russia.
The Spanish national team got a convincing victory despite internal crises rocking the nation.
Valencia attacker Rodrigo got the opener for the home team in the 16th minute of the game when he received a brilliant pass inside the box from Isco, and beats the goalkeeper with a shot into the roof of the net.
Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke showed great vision to find Isco with a cheeky pass inside the box, and his first-time shot is precise and sails into the roof of the net making it 2-0.
The home supporters were in high spirit, cheering their team for the third goal.
And it was Thiago Alcantara who answered the yearning of the home supporters by getting the third goal for home side through a header from close range.
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique was jeered by fans as Spain qualified for next summer's World Cup with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Albania.
Pique said before the game he would not be driven out of the national team by fans opposed to his public support for the Catalonia independence referendum.
Jeers rang out from Spain fans each time the 30-year-old touched the ball in Alicante.
Meanwhile, on other FIFA world cup qualifiers across Europe, Italy were held to frustrating 1-1 draw by a Pandev inspired Macedonia.
It was Giorgio Chiellini who got the opening goal for the host team in the 40th minute as he found himself some space inside the box to get on the end of a pass from Ciro Immobile, then sends the ball low into the middle of the net. 1:0.
The visitors however got their much desired equaliser when Goran Pandev played a long ball to Aleksandar Trajkovski, who then cuts inside and unleashes a screamer into the left of the goal leaving Buffon with no chance of making a save.
Spain secured their place in Russia 2018 with their convincing 3-0 over Albania, why Italy remains on the look out for an automatic qualification with just one game remaining.
